Three “Essential” Baby Items You Don’t Need to Buy

When you’re a new parent you know that there are a lot of things you need to do to prepare for your new baby.  Along with getting together their room, thinking about names, and going in for pre-natal care, you also need to do a serious amount of shopping.  Your baby is going to need a crib, clothes, bottles, diapers, and a variety of other essential items.

You know that you can buy diapers online and you know that you can borrow your friend’s old crib, but did you know that there are some baby items that you actually don’t need to rush out and buy?  When you’re a new parent you feel like you need to have a lot of things to ensure that your baby is getting the proper care it needs, but when you head out on your next shopping trip feel free to skip buying some of these popular baby items.

Changing Table

A changing table may seem like the most essential baby product to have, but you really don’t need a separate piece of furniture to be able to change your baby.  Instead of purchasing an entire table, find a much less expensive changing pad that you can place on any flat surface.  A changing pad can convert any flat surface into your own instant changing table, and they’re unlike traditional changing tables, they’re portable.

Baby Laundry Detergent

Unless your pediatrician recommends purchasing a special kind of laundry detergent for your baby’s clothing, you don’t need to buy different laundry detergent to use for your baby.  A lot of companies make specialized baby laundry detergents that are usually a lot more expensive than their regular products.  The selling point of the major of these detergents is that they’re dye-free, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic, but you can find other detergents with the same qualities that are made for adults that will be much less expensive.

Fuzzy Blankets

Fuzzy blankets with cute designs and bright colors may look adorable, but there are very few that are safe for your baby to use.  The soft, fuzzy, and plushy material that parents are drawn to pose an overheating risk to your baby. Instead of buying a lot of fuzzy blankets, opt for buying a few thin blankets and blankets that are made for swaddling.
